Growing up Jewish, I always had serious Christmas envy.

The magic, the lights, and the mystery always seemed more exciting.

The rich and dreamy EggNog, was one of those curiosities that captured my attention, until I grew up and was able to read the nutritional labeling.

At 400 cal per cup, I decided to pass…until I came up with my own recipe.

(If you’re wrapped up in the holiday crunch, one easy Egg Nog hack is to dilute or “skim milk down” the commercial Egg Nog which will knock off a lot of calories, fat and sugar).

But if you have the time, this Egg Nog is a smart treat, and the secret is to chill it for at least 8 hours before serving.

Jewish Girl’s EggNog

1 1/2 cups fat free egg substitute

1 can non-fat evaporated milk

2 Tablespoons vanilla

2 Tablespoons sugar

1 Tablespoon brandy extract (or 2 tablespoons real brandy or rum)

pinch grated nutmeg

Chill for at least 8 hours and enjoy at 100 calories/cup.
